Want a smaller waist?
Do this exercise!
The close grip V bar lat pull down primarily targets the latissimus dorsi muscles, which are the large muscles in your back. Those are the muscles that give you that V-shaped appearance.
This exercise also engages the muscles in your shoulders, biceps, and forearms.
When you build strong, sculpted shoulders, and a well developed beautiful upper back it gives you that aesthetic appearance of a V taper.
I like to have a dedicated back day once a week.
I often incorporate this close grip V bar lat pull down into my back day training split .
Here is how to perform this exercise:
1. Adjust the seat height of the lat pulldown machine so that your thighs are firmly positioned under the thigh pads.
2. Sit down and grasp the V-bar attachment with a close grip, with your palms facing each other (supinated grip).
3. Make sure your back is straight, shoulders are relaxed, and feet are flat on the floor.
4. Extend your arms fully and slightly lean back, maintaining a slight bend in your elbows.
5. Pull the bar down towards your upper chest or just below your chin by squeezing your shoulder blades together and engaging your lats.
6. Pause for a moment when the bar is close to your body, feeling the contraction in your back muscles.
7. Slowly and controlled, return the bar back to the starting position, fully extending your arms.
If you’re new to training, remember to use a weight that allows you to maintain proper form and complete the exercise with control.
The back is so much fun to train because it’s one that you can build up strength and eventually go heavier.
Before starting any new exercise consult a fitness professional if you're unsure about proper technique or have any concerns.
