Shoulder mobility exercises. There are so many different variations to choose from. Most require minimal equipment like a pipe, band, ball or mat.
I have several of my favorite in my Instagram feed but a quick YouTube search will yield you a plethora of mobility exercise options.
Here is why you need to incorporate them into your training splits.
Improved Range of Motion: Shoulder mobility exercises can help increase the flexibility and range of motion in your shoulder joints. Improved range of motion can make daily activities easier and reduce the risk of shoulder injuries.
Injury Prevention: Strong and mobile shoulders are less prone to injuries, such as rotator cuff strains, shoulder impingement, and frozen shoulder. Incorporating shoulder mobility exercises can help strengthen the muscles around your shoulder joints, improving stability and reducing the risk of injury during physical activities and sports.
Posture Correction: Many people experience rounded shoulders and forward head posture due to poor posture habits and prolonged sitting. Shoulder mobility exercises can help correct these posture imbalances by stretching tight muscles and strengthening weak muscles. This can improve your overall posture and reduce discomfort in the neck and upper back.
Better Performance in Sports and Workouts: Whether you participate in sports or engage in regular workouts, having good shoulder mobility is essential for optimal performance. It allows for better movement efficiency, coordination, and power generation in exercises like overhead presses, push-ups, and throwing movements.
Reduced Pain and Discomfort: Shoulder mobility exercises can help alleviate shoulder pain and discomfort caused by muscle imbalances, tension, or stiffness. Regularly incorporating these exercises into your routine can help loosen tight muscles, improve blood flow, and reduce muscle tension, leading to reduced pain and discomfort in the shoulders and upper body.
As an athlete, a flight attendant and a person who just wants to move without pain , I take my shoulder health seriously.
I routinely do shoulder mobility exercises every training day, at the end of my workout with my stretching.
If you don’t already do shoulder mobility exercises let this article be your sign to get going on them! Your body will thank you
